Shojo gals

Realised as I went through some forums (I like to read comments generally, even if it's at the NYtimes. ;p) that people are looking for a different shojo gal after going through the same formula too many times. Ya, me too. I think there's a "movement" for that more intelligent gal who doesn't get bullied, keep falling down, and isn't just "sweet" for sweet's sake. The first ditzy gal I came across was in Loveless (was it Yuiko) and she irritated me quite a fair bit. And I actually got tired of Itazura Na Kiss' Kotoko. Wished she wouldn't be hanging/clinging/crying/falling over the guy all the time.

Any to recommend?
